Oh wow, it’s been a month since I said I was going to update and then didn’t. Sorry about that, guys. I’ve had some real life worries lately and spent what free time I got trying to get my mind off of them. Strictly speaking, getting ready for working this summer, looking for a new kitten, and other life-related things have pretty much eaten up my time. /sigh. Being an adult is hard! In my opinion, you guys that are still in school have no idea how easy you actually have it. lol. It’s like, “wow! The real world really sucks!” when you actually have to start fending for yourself.

Anyhoo, during the last month, I’ve gotten a forum up. This was done for various reasons, which would take to long to explain. In short, I will be posting all resources on the forum from now on. Resources being tutorials, lyrics (useful for text on icons/layouts!), scans, screencaps, etc. I might even post icon bases from time to time. However, the resource part of the forum is hidden to everyone but members, so you will have to join to see the resources. The resources are hidden so that no one can steal them easily. I’ve had that problem before and it’s a royal pain.

It’s more or less a general forum, so feel free to join and post around. I have a feeling it’ll more or less be used as a resource dump, but there’s no reason to not try to have general conversation too!

Also, since I hadn’t gotten a chance to check my email and it got spammed to high heaven, if you sent an affiliation/link exchange request and didn’t receive a reply, feel free to send it again! I couldn’t really sift through what was spam and what wasn’t so, in the end, everything got deleted.

It seems as though quite a few people lately are iconing Starry Sky and it kinda makes me sad because my biases are almost always left out. Well, unless it’s Tomoe, but that’s beside the point. Why no love for Kotanii and Iku? And Miyaji is so moe and tsuntsun that it hurts. Oh man, my biases run deep.

Because of that, I decided to make some Starry Sky icons! I don’t even know what happened because this turned into a monster before I realized it. And before you guys go “she made how many?!?“, please note that most of these are sprite icons. I do have plans to make sprite icons of all the guys, but the winter ones will be a while since I refuse to look at them before I play in Winter. The sprites and CGs are half the fun!

I also want to note that, one, using the screenshot feature of the portable games to get CGs makes me rage. I had to use that for a few CGs and I just can’t with that anymore. My clone tool-fu is terrible. Two, with icons like this I tend to just pick a colouring that works best and stick with it until I need to revise it for a different character/picture. That said, there isn’t much variation in colouring here. My colouring also doesn’t effect white space and I don’t like going overboard with brightness/contrast. It’s there, but subtle if there’s a white background. Ironically enough, it seems a bit dark to me with mid-toned images. Buuuh, I can’t win, can I?

While I’m on the topic of Stasuka, while I stan the VNs like burning (maybe not so much with in Spring. Oh geez, the script was so bad…), my brain denies the anime on the most basic level. I just…I can’t. Way to make Tomoe sound like a stalker within the first ep. /facepalm. I didn’t stick with it long enough, but something tells me they didn’t make his dad as hilarious as he actually is. “Is that your girlfriend?! I WANNA TALK TO HER.” “NO DAD, NO. SHE’S MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WANNA TALK TO HER.” bahaha. I also laughed so hard whenever someone confused Kazuki for Kanata while lurking Minitokyo. This post was such an amusing experience for me. ♥

Before I go into the update details, I’d like to kind of talk about rhodesia for a bit. No, I am not closing the site. I’d just like to tell you all about what goes on behind the site.

Honestly, I’ve owned rhodesia for over four years now and for about the past two or three it has become somewhat of an afterthought for me. Something I update whenever I get around to it rather than actually setting aside some time for the site. The realization of that saddened me, to be honest. rhodesia has become something near and dear to me, so I don’t want to let it go. Or more like I won’t let it go. Not yet, at least.

rhodesia has become somewhat of a pillar in my life. If the going gets tough and I need an escape, this is what I’ve got. That said, rhodesia will probably stick around until I feel that I don’t need that type of pillar anymore. I started rhodesia back in 2006 to branch out and try to spread my own wings, so to speak, in the graphic design world. Now the site has become something so much more than that. It’s my creative outlet, it’s something that puts me at peace, it’s something I very much enjoy and treasure.

To be honest, I’m kind of a lazy person that never really sticks to one thing for very long. In that sense, I’m amazed rhodesia hasn’t died off because of my flighty personality. However, at the same time I’m also very stubborn and that stubbornness is probably a good part of the reason rhodesia is still here. From now on, I’m setting aside some time in my schedule to properly maintain this site. No more afterthought/only when I feel like it updates.

Note that this doesn’t actually mean I’ll be updating every week or few weeks. I’ll probably update at least once a month, however. I just feel really, really bad that I’ve been inadvertently treating this site so badly for the past few years.

Anyway, updates hoy.

- Cleared up affiliates. Affiliation is now open for 3 spots. Affiliates that have been removed are more than welcome to tell me when they come back, if they do, and I’ll be happy to re-affiliate!
